Galway Bay fm newsroom – Travellers from across Galway will hold a protest at City Hall this afternoon over concerns about the provision of traveller accommodation.
The Galway Traveller Movement says some families are worried about the type of long-term accommodation that will be provided for them – and whether it will be safe and culturally appropriate.
The group says there are Traveller families living at transient sites in Galway for up to 12 years – despite the fact that these locations were supposed to be temporary.
Galway Council is due to discuss the provision of 14 houses for Traveller families at its budget meeting today.
The protest will take place at City Hall from 2 this afternoon.
Galway Traveller Movement spokesperson Margaret O’Riada says there’s a high level of need, but no solid plans have been put in place.
