Galway Bay fm newsroom – The City Council is being urged to speed up the process of taking back control of the former tourist office building in Salthill.
The building was transferred to the ownership of Ireland West Tourism several years ago at a nominal fee.
However, the tourist office at the building closed about 3 years ago and has been vacant since.
The City Council sought expressions of interest from people interested in providing a tourist related business at the building.
It’s understood there was one potential operator but it would necessitate the local authority taking back ownership of the former office.
Councillor Donal Lyons says it’s imperative that the Council expedites legal proceedings to get the former tourist office back from what is now Fáilte Ireland.
