The HSE says it’s considering a number of options in relation to the provision of alcohol and drug addiction services in the city.
The matter has been raised at local health forum level by city councillor and forum member, Catherine Connolly.
Councillor Connolly says there’s serious issues with alcohol and drugs in Galway, and the building at Merlin Park Hospital – which was burned down in 2013 – should be rebuilt.
The HSE says it’s looking at various options for the service including building a new unit at Merlin Park, finding a new site, or transferring services to an existing HSE facility.
