Galway TD brings Inis Mor ferry crisis to the Dail

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway TD Eamon O’Cuiv has brought the Inis Mór ferry crisis before the Dáil.
Fianna Fail deputy O’Cuiv has called on the Government to provide a vital transport link for the residents of the largest Aran Islands.
It comes as councillors are meeting at County Hall for the budget meeting where the dispute concerning passenger levies will be raised.
However, attempts to raise it shortly after the meeting began at noon were stamped out, with chairman Michael Connolly saying it would be raised later.
The crunch meeting follows the withdrawal last evening of the winter service to Inis Mór until March 2017.
Island Ferries Teo has cited the ‘negative fiscal conditions’ created by the local authority with the introduction of passenger levies.
Speaking in the Dail this afternoon, Deputy O’Cuiv said the islanders have been left without a vital transport link today.
Speaking in response, Tánaiste and Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald said Gaeltacht Minister Sean Kyne is hopeful that today’s meeting with the local authority could assist in ending the dispute.
