Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Minister of State with responsibility for Gaeltacht Affairs Sean Kyne says he is hopeful a resolution can be found to the Inis Mor ferry crisis.
It comes as councillors are due to meet at County Hall shortly for the budget meeting where the dispute concerning passenger levies will be raised.
The crunch meeting follows the planned withdrawal last evening of the winter service to the largest Aran Island until March 2017.
Island Ferries Teo has cited the ‘negative fiscal conditions’ created by the local authority with the introduction of passenger levies.
Minister Kyne says he hopes a proposal can be approved that paves the way to undertake a review of bye-laws, charging regimes and running costs of Kilronan Pier.
He told Keith Finnegan, the ferry operator may consider reinstating the winter service to Inis Mor if there is a commitment to such a review.
