Burglary rate in Galway one of lowest nationwide

It’s been revealed that Galway has one of the lowest rates of burglaries in the country.
According to stats issued by An Garda Siochana, Galway had the fifth lowest number of burglaries nationwide in the first six months of this year.
Between January and June, Galway experienced just 87 burglaries per 100,000 people across the city and county.
That’s one of the lowest rates nationwide – and less than a third of the figure for Wexford, which stands at 256 per 100,000.
Sitting at the top of the national tables, Wexford is trailed by Dublin at 249, Kildare with 241, Louth with 234 and Wicklow with 222.
Galway sits near the bottom of that table – its figure of 87 is ahead of Monaghan with just 31, Leitrim with 43, Donegal at 49 and Mayo at 51.
The worst individual district in Ireland is Pearse Street in the capital with 730 burglaries per 100,000 people – more than five times the national average.
According to the Irish Independent, the figures are directly related to access to Ireland’s high speed motorway network – with isolated areas experiencing far lower levels of crime.
