Galway Bay fm newsroom – Irish Water says long-awaited works on a new water source for Kilconnell are on-track to be completed by the end of the year.
The area is the last location in Galway which remains on a boil water notice – with 250 customers affected.
The boil notice was imposed last year following extreme weather conditions.
Heavy rain led to a deterioration of the quality of water entering the source.
Irish Water says a number of remedial actions have been investigated, and trials have since taken place to find a solution.
Since September, customers have been supplied with water from a borehole near the creamery.
Ongoing works including borehole protection, and the installation of a run-to-waste facility are on-going.
Irish Water says it’s hopeful these works can be completed by the end of December.
In the meantime, Kilconnell’s boil water notice remains in place.
