Galway Bay fm newsroom – Concerns have been raised over procurement issues recorded at Galway city council.
It follows the findings of an audit committee report which were discussed at this week’s meeting of the local authority.
The audit found a number of instances of non-compliance with procurement policies and procedures.
Nine contracts of the sample audited with a cumulative value of 1.1 million euro, were found to have not been tendered despite exceeding the threshold.
Eight contracts worth 374 thousand euro could not be verified as having been properly advertised.
Head of Finance Edel McCormack said a procurement officer was appointed late last year and reports regularly to the management team on procurement issues, including the introduction of new policies to address any non-compliance.
Chief Executive Brendan McGrath stressed the city council does not have lax procurement and agreed to bring a report to members in January.
