Galway Bay fm newsroom – A public meeting will be held in the city next week to debate surging rent prices in Galway.
The initiative is led by campaign group Secure Rents who argue tenants across the west and in Ulster are being forced into debt, poverty and despair.
The latest figures have revealed that rents in the city have increased by almost 8 percent since last year.
The Secure Rent campaign wants to see rents linked to the cost of living, revoke the right of landlords to evict tenants for the purpose of sale and better lease terms for tenants.
The meeting takes place on Wednesday (Nov 23) at the Harbour Hotel at 7pm.
