Galway Bay fm newsroom – A research centre at NUI Galway has entered into a €1.5m international partnership to develop a new device to revolutionize the treatment of fractured bones.
CURAM, the Science Foundation Ireland Centre for Research in Medical Devices, will join forces with researchers at Ulster University and at North Carolina State University for the venture.
The project intends to develop magnesium alloys strong enough to support bone fracture healing before being fully absorbed by the body.
It’s hoped the development will offer a significant advantage over current orthopaedic implant technologies.
