Galway Bay fm newsroom – The county Local Community Development Committee has voted to lodge an appeal over the granting of the Leader programme in Galway sub-regional area.
It follows the awarding of the operation of Leader in all of Connemara and the Aran Islands to Forum Conamara in Letterfrack.
Comhar na nOilean, which is based on Inis Oirr and previously ran the programme, had proposed to run Leader in conjunction with the County Council’s Local Community Development Committee over the next five years.
The independent selection committee chose a local development strategy proposed by Forum Connemara to deliver LEADER in the municipal district of Connemara only.
This includes the gaeltacht and offshore islands.
It’s unclear as yet whether there will be a second call for expressions of interest to deliver the LEADER programme in the areas of the county not included.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, the LCDC says the appeal is being made as the group feels the strategy submitted for the full county may not have been adequately considered against the criteria set out for the assessment.
The appeal must be lodged by Friday (Jul 22) and a decision is due to be made within 20 working days.
