Galway Bay fm newsroom – A second fish kill as a result of pollution has been discovered in north Galway.
It was revealed yesterday that a major fish kill on a tributary of the Sinking River near Dunmore has been caused by silage effluent leaking from a farm in the area.
Today, another significant fish kill has been discovered at the Dawros river near Milltown which feeds into the Clare river.
Inland Fisheries Ireland says water levels are low in many rivers, so the impact of pollution is much greater.
Farmers in particular are being warned to be vigilant when spreading slurry and monitoring silage pits.
Greg Forde from Inland Fisheries says the source of this second incident of pollution has yet to be established.
