Galway Bay fm newsroom – Thirty Galway schools have received good news today by being informed that they’re included in the Government’s School Building Programme for the next five years.
Many schools can now go ahead and proceed with plans for extensions and upgrades.
Other schools such as Scoil Bhríde in Lackagh, which already has planning permission, can proceed to advanced stages of building.
Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council, Peter Roche says Cahergal national school can proceed to construction next year as a result of being included in the list.
Other schools included in the next building programme are St Joseph’s ‘The Bish’ and the amalgamated Our Lady’s secondary school in the city.
In Athenry, Gairmscoil Mhuire, Scoil Chroí Naofa, Gaeilscoil Riada, Coláiste an Eachraidh, Presentation College and Scoil Baile Atha Na Riogh are all included in the programme.
Schools in the latter part of the plan, such as Scoil Mhuire in Moycullen and St. Annin’s in Roscahill can now begin work on design and obtaining planning permission.
Galway West Fine Gael T.D, Seán Kyne, says it’s good news for 30 schools in Galway hoping to improve facilities.
