Galway Bay fm newsroom – Energy upgrades are being rolled out at over one thousand local authority homes across Galway.
The works will see units fitted with a ‘climote’ remote control heating system in an effort to promote greater energy efficiency.
The Climote remote control heating system enables homeowners to control their heating timings and temperature via a smartphone, text message or online.
It’s now being rolled out at almost 1,300 local authority homes across the county as part of a national scheme fully funded by Electric Ireland.
It means that Galway County Council will not have to pay anything towards the cost of upgrading its housing stock with the energy saving measure.
The Smart Technology Energy Saving Scheme was launched at the start of the year by Minister Alan Kelly and will be rolled out in 10 thousand homes nationwide over the next 12 months.
The works are currently only being carried out at units owned by the County Council – however, Galway City Council is currently considering options for its own housing stock.
It’s hoped that the introduction of the technology will reduce energy consumption by an average of up to 20% every year.
