Galway Bay fm newsroom – It’s reported that Roscommon Galway TD Denis Naughten may be appointed Minister for Enterprise and Employment when Enda Kenny announces his new Cabinet in the next hour.
The Independent TD is one of two Galway TDs who backed Kenny in this afternoon’s vote.
Galway East T.D Seán Canney also voted for Enda Kenny.
Speaking to our reporter Mairtin O Cathain at government buildings, he says his decision was based on the mandate given to him by his constituents.
Roscommon Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice abstained in the vote.
Earlier he had been in negotiations with Fine Gael about forming a minority government but had issues in relation to policy on turfcutting.
Deputy Fitzmaurice says he abstained in the hope that turf-cutting issues can be resolved.
Galway West / South Mayo Independent T.D Catherine Connolly voted against Enda Kenny this afternoon.
Deputy Connolly says she couldn’t back the proposed deal due to a lack of essential spending in areas such as mental health.
Galway West / South Mayo Independent TD Noel Grealish abstained in the vote this afternoon.
He says he’s confident he can still have a constructive role in the Dáil.
Galway West Fianna Fáil TD Eamon O’Cuiv says that the Aran Island’s air service is at the top of his agenda as the new government gets to work.
He says the new government will prove Sinn Féin wrong, after the party said the government deal wouldn’t work.
Galway Fine Gael TDs Sean Kyne, Hildegarde Naughton, Ciaran Cannon and Fianna Fáil’s Eamon O’Cuiv, Anne Rabbitte and Eugene Murphy all voted in line with their parties and backed Enda Kenny for the position of Taoiseach.
