Drop in Galway firearms offences

Galway Bay fm newsroom – There has been a considerable drop in Firearms offences across Galway.
Overall in 2015, there were 54 cases recorded across the county – a drop of more than 15 percent compared to the figure for 2014.
CSO figures show that the biggest drop last year was in Maum, where the figure dropped from 6 cases in 2014 to just one case last year.
There were also minor drops in Oranmore, Ballinasloe, Tuam, Clifden and Gort.
Galway City was one of just four locations to experience an increase in weapons and explosives offences, rising from 27 cases in 2014 to 29 last year.
There were also very minor increases in such offences in Glenmaddy, Ballygar and Loughrea.
Some areas reported no change from very minor figures for 2014 – while the vast majority of Garda stations in Galway recorded no firearm or explosive offences at all.
