Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway’s rural population is being advised to expect extremely low flying aircraft across the county over the coming months.
The aircraft will be collecting geo-chemical and geophysical information for a Tellus survey being conducted by the Geological Survey of Ireland.
Research aircraft will fly just 60 metres above ground level in rural areas – and farmers in particular are being advised that the noise may startle some animals.
The geological aircraft will also be surveying urban areas across the county, but will rise to the significantly increased altitude of 240 metres for such research.
The white twin propeller plane will be identifiable by it’s unique red tail and black stripe with the word ‘SURVEY’ along its fuselage.
Emma Scanlon of Tellus says the survey flights will begin next month, and will continue throughout the summer.
