Galway County Council one of biggest users of JobBridge scheme nationwide

Galway Bay fm newsroom – It’s been revealed that Galway County Council is one of the biggest users of JobBridge interns nationwide.
The local authority currently has 116 employees through the controversial state scheme – the second highest figure for a County Council behind Cork.
It also places Galway County Council on a list of the top 20 JobBridge users in Ireland – coming in at 13th place ahead of industry giant Dell, the Department of Justice and the FAI.
According to the Sunday Business Post, the largest JobBridge employer is the HSE, which employs 400 people through the national internship scheme.
IMPACT trade union is calling for the JobBridge system to be dissolved, following reports of widespread misuse of the programme.
It says it would prefer to see the JobBridge scheme replaced with targeted programmes and for better monitored and regulated internships.
IMPACT’s Joe O’Connor says it has led to the displacement of paid jobs.
