Galway Bay fm newsroom – A week-long programme of events to mark Galway’s military involvement in the 1916 Rising will get underway across the city and county from tomorrow. (Monday 25/4)
‘Remembering the Rising’ will get underway with a public flag raising ceremony at County Hall at 1pm tomorrow, which will be led by the Defence Forces.
The flag raising ceremony will be followed by a special meeting of the County Council, and a reception for the relatives of the Galway men and women of 1916.
The engagement between the Castlegar and Claregalway Volunteers and the RIC will be marked at Carnmore Cross at a special unveiling event on Tuesday morning at 10.30.
On Friday, a full-day guided bus tour of the county will get underway from Oranmore at 9.45am.
Meanwhile, a commemorative map of the 1916 Heritage Trail will be launched at the Lady Gregory Hotel in Gort at 3pm on Friday.
