Galway Bay fm newsroom – There’s been a major drop in public order offences in Salthill.
Figures show that the number of cases plummeted from 164 cases in 2014 to 90 cases last year – by far the biggest drop in the county.
The significant drop in public order and other social code offences in Salthill last year was the largest drop across Galway, representing a 45 percent decrease on the figure for 2014.
Several other areas in the county recorded considerable drops last year, including Athenry, Kilconnell, Kinvara, and Loughrea.
Meanwhile, the figure for the city remained virtually unchanged – with just one extra case last year on the 1, 026 recorded in 2014.
Ballinasloe also saw a decrease of just one offence, from 184 in 2014 to 183 last year – while Clifden dropped from 40 to 38 during the same time.
However, many areas saw a sharp increase in public order offences, with Tuam experiencing a rise from 103 cases in 2014 to 127 last year.
Other areas which saw significant increases in such offences include Oranmore, Claregalway, Carna, Dunmore, Gort, Maum, Letterfrack and Moylough.
CSO figures show that overall, there were 1,863 public order and other social code offences recorded in Galway last year – a minor drop on the 1,911 cases in 2014.
