Galway Bay fm newsroom – The company that operated the iconic Kylemore Abbey and Walled Gardens in Connemara has recorded a profit of 1.6 million euro.
Visitor numbers to Kylemore Abbey in Letterfrack increased by 15 per cent to 300 thousand last year.
Kylemore Abbey is home to 11 Benedictine nuns and last year, Kylemore Trust, which is controlled by the nuns, took back control of the tourist operation at the Abbey.
Prior to that it was operated by hotelier John Lally’s company Kylemore Tourism Limited.
Figures filed for Kylemore Tourism Limited show that the company’s accumlated profits increased from 2.25 million euro to 3.89 million euro in the year to the end of March 2015.
According to today’s Irish Independent, Kylemore Abbey and Walled Gardens employs 140 people at peak season.
