Galway Bay Fm newsroom-The IFA says the National Parks and Wildlife service is ‘not welcome’ on Galway farms until it honours an agreement made with farmers several years ago on land designation.
Eyrecourt farmer and IFA Connacht Regional Chairperson Tom Turley says the refusal of the NPWS to to allow remedial works on some rivers and turloughs has contributed to severe flooding in certain areas.
He says says flooding across the county can only be permanently tackled if the NPWS is prevented from interfering.
The IFA says the Farm Plan Scheme must be made available to all farmers who have a ‘Special Area of Conservation’ designation imposed on their lands.
It also says existing agreements relating to SAC lands must be honoured.
The farming body says land designation issues are placing restrictions on farming activities and developments – and the new government must address the issue.
Connacht Regional Chairperson Tom Turley says the NPWS is not welcome on Galway farms until it honours the agreement made with farmers in 2012.
