Galway Bay fm newsroom – It’s been revealed that Galway homeowners have spent 31 million euro renovating their homes over the past three years.
In what’s being billed as the end of the ‘property ladder’ era, homeowners across the country spent almost one billion euro on renovations during that time.
Galway homeowners are the forth biggest spenders in the country – investing almost 31 million euro into home improvements since October 2013.
In total, almost 1,500 households across Galway undertook work on their homes – with an average spend of just over 21 thousand euro.
Extensions made up the bulk of the works, followed by general repairs and renovations, window replacement and kitchen renovations.
Nationally, homeowners spent 800 million euro overhauling their properties – a figure largely attributable to tax breaks designed to bolster the construction sector.
Dublin has the largest spend, with homeowners spending a whopping 436 million euro on home improvements since October 2013 – followed by Cork at 84 million, Kildare at 35 million and Galway at 31 million.
According to the Irish Independent, the figures herald the end of the ‘property ladder era’ – where families simply moved if more space was required.
