Galway Bay fm newsroom – 3 and a half million euro in insurance claims was paid out for falls and accidents in the city in the past three years.
That’s according to City Councillor Niall McNelis, who is calling for earlier pedestrianisation of city streets.
Currently, couriers and delivery trucks have until 10.30 each morning to park on pedestrianised streets, such as Shop Street, to unload deliveries.
City businessowner, Councillor McNelis says the trucks are hampering the city’s tourist trade and impacting on businesses.
The Labour councillor says that cobble streets such as Shop Street are also suffering under the weight of some of the trucks.
He says this is contributing to insurance claims against the city.
Speaking to Keith Finnegan, Councillor McNelis says pedestrianising city streets at 9a.m instead of 10.30a.m would have many benefits.
