Galway Bay fm newsroom – It’s being claimed that the HSE has failed to deliver on commitments made in relation to Emergency Departments nationwide, including at UHG.
A review of overcrowding in hospital emergency departments is back before the Workplace Relations Commission today.
The agreement was made on condition that nurses called off planned industrial action if the HSE agreed to hire more nurses.
However, the Irish Nurses and Midwives organisation says the HSE has not kept to its side of the bargain.
It follows the cancellation of a number of elective surgeries at UHG last week to tackle serious overcrowding at the unit.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park Hospital have the highest number of cancelled surgeries in the country.
The Organisation’s general secretary Liam Doran says only full implementation of the plan will work.
