Galway Bay fm newsroom – There is a call to set up a task force in the Ballybane area of the city.
Sinn Féin election candidate for Galway West / South Mayo, Trevor O’ Clochartaigh says Ballybane is an area with specific social and educational needs.
He has met with local community representatives who want a taskforce to push for initiatives for the area and a paid person to co-ordinate the work.
They say Ballybane needs a Community Employment Scheme, the provision of housing to tackle homelessness, a horse initiative and activities for younger people.
Trevor O’ Clochartaigh says funding for a taskforce needs to be explored.
