Galway Bay fm newsroom – A bid to keep a Subway sandwich bar and seating at a city centre location has been turned down.
An Bord Pleanala has rejected an application to overturn a city council decision, refusing planning permission to retain a change of use of the ground floor of number 12 High Street, which is a protected structure.
In the appeal to An Bord Pleanala, Tolmur Limited argued that the previous Londis shop with a Subway sandwich bar at the first floor was not viable due to limited space.
The company argused that keeping the sandwich bar on the ground floor is vital to the future of the building.
However, An Bord Pleanala has ruled that the sandwich bar at ground floor contravenes the City Development Plan, which seeks to preserve principal streets in the city for retail use only.
