Galway Bay fm newsroom – The water treatment plant at Tiernee-Lettermore is set for an upgrade following a high level meeting to discuss ongoing problems at the site.
However, Irish Water says it’s likely that the boil water notice imposed on the area last month will remain in place for the forseeable future.
Following a review at the treatment plant by Irish Water, the utility met with the HSE and Galway County Council to discuss its findings.
As a result, the treatment facility will now be upgraded – however, before works can take place, operations at the plant will cease completely later this month.
From Tuesday February 23rd to Friday February 26th, the plant will shut down completely to accomodate the planned works.
Residents in Tiernee-Lettermore are being advised that the shut-down may result in water discoloration, and Irish Water will supply water tankers during that time.
While the upgrade works are expected to begin later this month, Irish Water says the full programme will likely not be completed for a number of months – and the boil water notice will remain in effect indefinitely.
