Galway Bay fm newsroom – Irish Water is to shortly install a UV water treatment system in Loughrea in a bid to deal with an outbreak of Cryptosporidium.
Galway East general election candidate Ciaran Cannon says almost 9000 people are affected by a boil water notice in Loughrea town, Craughwell and the surrounding area.
Supplies or group schemes in the following areas are also affected by the boil notice: Earlspark, Masonbrook, Noewtowndaly, Loughrea Rural, Kileenadeema, Carrowmore/Clostoken, Caherlaven, Carrigean and Caherdine.
Irish Water is advising customers in these areas to boil their water before using it for drinks, food preparation, brushing teeth or making ice.
While it’s good news that the UV unit has been sourced in Ireland, it may still take some time to decontaminate the area’s water supply.
