Galway Bay fm newsroom – Up to 25 cleaning staff at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe will begin industrial action at the hospital next week.
The threat of action follows a claim by SIPTU members that management employed contract cleaners without any meaningful negotiations with current staff.
Cleaners at the center of the impending industrial action claim a cost analysis of hiring contract staff was not carried out.
It’s alleged that management employed those contract staff without any real consultations with existing cleaning staff at the hospital.
In response, the SIPTU members are set to hold a work stoppage at Portiuncula next Friday afternoon.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, the HSE says management will continue to engage constructively with the union ahead of the planned disruption.
It also says every effort will be made to minimise the impact of patient services.
The threat of industrial action comes two weeks after restrictions were imposed at the hospital because of an outbreak of the C.Difficile infection.
