Galway Bay fm newsroom – 96 percent of rental properties in Galway are priced beyond the reach of those on rent supplement.
That’s according to Galway Simon Community, which says the state is failing individuals and families at risk of homelessness.
During a recent study, the charity found that only one of 24 properties advertised across Galway were at or below the rent supplement limits.
No properties were available within the Rent Supplement or Housing Assistance Payment limits for a single person, a couple or a parent with 2 children.
The study was carried out over three consecutive days in November.
Niamh Randall of the Simon Communities says nationally, the falling supply of rental homes is just one factor pushing up rents.
