Galway Bay fm newsroom – Health Minister Leo Varadkar is said to be ‘keeping a close watch’ on the review of the out-of-hours GP service for Craughwell.
Westdoc has faced criticism in recent days after it was revealed that the East Galway village is being served by a GP based in Roscommon, some 70km away.
The GP provides cover to Craughwell during the ‘red eye shift’ from midnight to 8am, Monday to Wednesday.
However, a spokesperson for Westdoc says it also has local GPs on standby in all areas in case of any emergency situations.
The current arrangement is due to come to an end next Wednesday (27/1), when the out-of-hours service for Craughwell and the surrounding area will be reviewed.
Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon says the minister has committed to ensuring that patient care is prioritised.
