Galway Bay Fm newsroom – The completion of a review into maternity services at Portiuncula Hospital has been pushed back until the first few months of this year.
The Saolta University Health Care Group appointed nine members to the review group team last March and set at that time a target date of five months.
The Saolta Group also says that regular re-audits at the maternity unit have confirmed that there is no continuing patient safety concern

The review of maternity services at Portiuncula is examining a significant number of adverse perinatal events which took place between 2008 and November 2014.
When undertaken in April of this year, the review involved twelve cases but has since been expanded to include a further six cases for a total of eighteen.
It aims to identify the extent, if any, of deficiencies in the process and outcome of care at Portiuncula Hospital.
In addition to meetings with families, the review has also seen over 250 interviews conducted with hospital staff in relation to the cases under investigation.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, the Saolta group says the final review is now likely to be completed sometime during the first quarter of 2016.
It says the delay is due to the complexity and scale of the work being undertaken, and the expansion of the review from twelve to eighteen cases.
As part of the process, the families involved will be provided with a draft report in early January to check for accuracy in advance of the final completion of the review.
