Galway Bay fm newsroom – Two of the world’s best known astronauts are set to visit the city next week.
Former Commander of the International Space Station, Chris Hadfield and Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli will take part in two separate public events just days apart.
Now retired, Chris Hadfield boasts a number of space-faring accolades, including several space shuttle missions, and serving as commander of the International Space Station.
He became the first Canadian to walk in space in 1995, and the only Canadian to board the Russian Space Station ‘Mir’ – and he released the only song ever recorded in space in Christmas 2012.
Mr. Hadfield will be at Eason on Shop Street in the City on Saturday the 14th at 2pm to sign copies of his new book, ‘You are here’, which features images taken from the International Space Station.
Meanwhile, Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli, who has also made several trips to the ISS, will also visit the city to give a public lecture.
He’ll be sharing his experiences in outer space with hundreds of students at GMIT as part of the 18th Galway Science and Technology Festival.
Mr Nespoli will give the public lecture at GMIT next Wednesday the 11th at 10am and all are welcome to attend.
