Galway city improves in latest litter rankings

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway city has moved up the litter-free rankings.
According to the latest Irish Business Against Litter – IBAL – survey, the city ranks 25th, compared to 34th in the previous year’s rankings.
It has been deemed ‘Clean to European Norms’.
The An Taisce report for Galway states that there was ‘noticeable improvement in sites such as Spanish Arch, Canal Lock below Wolfe Tone Bridge and Eglinton Canal Walk’.
Some of the top ranking sites in the city include, Lios an Uisce residential estate and the grounds of the Bons Secours in Renmore.
Longford has been named Ireland’s cleanest town for 2015 by IBAL.
It beat off competition from Dun Laoghaire and three-times winner Kilkenny to take the crown after judges found it to be cleaner than European norms.
The latest IBAL survey showed that no town was classed as a litter blackspot.
IBAL spokesperson Conor Horgan says local authorities have a big role to play in keeping Ireland clean
