Retail Excellence Ireland says sales across the country are off to a good start, with higher than usual discounts available to bargain-hunters.
The retail group says Irish shoppers have become more savvy in recent years, and now wait for the sales to buy clothing, footwear and homewares.
The post Christmas period, from today until New Years Eve, is the busiest and most important time for many businesses, particularly clothes shops.
The retail body says larger objects such as furniture are likely to see an increase in sales before the end of the year, due to the extension of the government’s Home Renovation Scheme.
