Galway Bay fm newsroom – There could be a major step foward in the long-running campaign to tackle the ambulance crisis in Connemara in the coming weeks.
It follows a meeting between the Connemara Ambulance Crisis Steering Group and Leo Varadkar at Leinster House.
The Health Minister heard how waiting times for ambulances in the region can often exceed four hours – and how recent upgrades at ambulance bases in Tuam and Mulranney have failed to improve the situation.
Minister Varadkar has informed the group that seven million euro in funding has been allocated to Health Services in Galway West.
An operational study will be undertaken by the National Ambulance Service in the new year to establish how best to allocate that funding.
It’s hoped some of that seven million euro will now go towards augmenting a service to North West Connemara.
Patricia Keane of the Ambulance Crisis Committee says she’s hopeful the health minister has taken their concerns on board.
