Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Education Minister has given assurance that her department is doing everything it possibly can to progress a new school building for Presentation College in Athenry.
Jan O’ Sullivan gave the assurance to a delegation from the school at a meeting held to discuss ongoing overcrowding concerns at the facility.
It follows the recent revelation that 100 pupils were informed that their applications for enrollment in first year at the school were unsuccessful due to a lack of space.
The Minister listened to concerns from representatives during the hour-long meeting, and gave assurances that she was aware of the situation and would continue to monitor the situation.
Minister O’ Sullivan has pledged to meet the delegation from Presentation College again in January to provide an update on the long-awaited new school building.
The new building was first approved several years ago, and the Education Minister says her department is working closely with Galway County Council to aquire a permanent site for the school.
Principle of Presentation College Cathal Moore says they’re pleased with the Minister’s engagement on the issue.
