Young boy who died in Kilcolgan farm accident named

Galway Bay Fm news-The young boy who died yesterday (Saturday) following a farm accident in Kilcolgan has been named as seven-year-old Mark Fordham from Kilcolgan.
People everywhere have been numbed with shock and sadness at the tragic death of the boy who is the only child of Donal Fordham and Patricia Leech.
The accident happened before midday yesterday (Saturday) and the little boy was rushed to University Hospital Galway where he was pronounced dead later in the afternoon.
Mark suffered the fatal injuries in an incident involving a potato sorting machine on the farm and his family is well-known in farming circles and for the firm Fordham’s Potatoes.
The boy was a second class pupil at Kiltiernan National School. The school has issued a statement saying that Mark Fordham will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Critical Incident Management Plan has been implemented by the school with Psychologists having already advised staff.
The school statement added that it will be open tomorrow (Monday) and Tuesday in an effort to support the pupils and parents in dealing with the tragic event
Mark Fordham was prayed for at masses in Labane and other churches in the area last night and this morning.
Fr David Cribbin, parish priest for the Ballinderreen and Kinvara parishes says the death, just days before Christmas, has hit the community hard.
The Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority are investigating the cause of this tragic farm accident.
