Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway Courthouse has been left out of a national court construction programme despite concerns about the suitability of the building.
700 new construction jobs are to be created during construction work on seven courthouses across the country.
Final contracts were signed today for the construction of four new courthouses and the refurbishment of three others.
Three new courts will be built in Drogheda, Letterkenny and Limerick City
While there will be refurbishments in Waterford, Mullingar and Wexford Town.
In Cork a new criminal court will be built while existing buildings will also be refurbished.
The entire project will cost around 135 million euro.
Galway courthouse has been described as ‘unfit for purpose’ amid recent heavy court lists.
An alternative site for Galway courthouse is due to be explored by the Courts Service next year.
