Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Education Minister is meeting with representatives from Presentation College Athenry this weekend to discuss overcrowding concerns at the school.
It follows a statement by Jan O’ Sullivan that her department was satisfied that capacity was sufficient – and no further temporary accommodation will be provided at the site.
The school has a waiting list of over 100 children.
Recently, letters were sent out to around 100 pupils to inform them that their application for enrolement in first year at the school was unsuccessful.
However, Minister Jan O’Sullivan says that her department is satisfied that there is sufficient capacity to cater to pupil demand.
Presentation College Athenry says the refusals are unavoidable, due to a lack of space on the existing school campus.
The long awaited new building for the school was first approved several years ago, and Jan O’Sullivan says her department is working closely with Galway County Council to aquire a permanent site for the school.
The Education Minister will meet a delegation from the school this weekend.
