Galway Bay fm newsroom – There’s fresh hope for the future of Merlin Woods as plans to build a bus route through Merlin Woods look set to be shelved.
It follows a unanimous decision made by Galway City Councillors to exclude any road through the area in the draft 2017 City Development Plan.
Community group Friends of Merlin Woods says that the move gives fresh hope that the 150 acre woodland could be designated as an Area of Special Conservation.
This SAC on the eastern side of Galway would include Merlin Woods, South Meadows, and Antin and Unclin Woods – and would extend to the sea.
