Galway Bay fm newsroom – Carraroe’s new fire station is on track to open early next year.
Nine firefighters recruited for the new station are entering their final stages of training.
This month, the new recruits will accompany fire crews from Clifden and the city on call-outs.
The joint operations will continue until February when the Carraroe station opens.
The facility is located at the Udaras Industrial Estate in An Cheathrú Rua, and is the result of a 20 year local campaign.
The station will cover the area from Spiddal to Maam Cross and the Aran Islands, serving a population of around 10 thousand people.
Galway West TD Sean Kyne says the new facility fit-out is now complete, as a result of a 180 thousand euro allocation from the County Council and the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management.
