Galway Bay fm newsroom – A candlelit memorial service will take place in the city this evening to mark World AIDS day.
Almost half of the 37 million people worldwide who have HIV are unaware that they are infected with the virus.
The HIV virus causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS, which affects the immune system and a person’s ability to fight common and serious infections.
A World AIDS Day service will take place at St Nicholas’ Colegiate Church, Middle Street at 7 this evening.
AIDS West Galway spokesperson Gerry Coy says the stigma attached to the condition is still a problem.
