Galway Bay fm newsroom – There’ll be an increase in fares for users of Galway’s public transport network from tomorrow.
Fares on city and regional buses and trains are set to increase by up to 5%.
The move by the National Transport Authority is a bid to encourage more people to use the Leap Card – card holders will not be affected by the price hikes.
For users of the Galway city bus network, tickets paid for using a Leap card will remain the same at 1.60 for adults and 76 cent for school children.
On average, Leap fares are 30% cheaper than cash fares.
For non-Leap card users, the adult fare will increase by 5% to 2 euro 10 cent, while the fare for a school child will increase by 5 cent ro one euro.
The price of an adult day pass will increase by 4.8% to 4 euro 40 cent.
Meanwhile, Intercity fares on some Galway services are increasing by up to 2%, depending on the distance travelled and ticket type.
Some train fares will not change.
Full details of the new fares are available online at GalwayTransport.info.
