Galway Bay fm newsroom – A public consultation meeting will take place in Portumna tomorrow to discuss the controversial management of flooding in the area.
Jacobs Engineering are currently conducting the Shannon CFRAM study on behalf of the OPW.
The survey aims to develop initial flood risk management options for Portumna and its environs.
It follows ongoing controversy over the town’s draft local area plan – which local Councillors claim does not accurately reflect the reality on the ground.
A recent meeting of the Loughrea District heard that it put 111 houses in Portumna under a flood plain – despite the fact that not one of those homes flooded during major flooding in 2009.
The CFRAM study is expected to offer a more detailed insight into the issue – but the County Council warned Councillors that it was ‘unlikely’ it would make any difference to the Local Area Plan.
The public consultation meeting will take place at Portumna Community Hall from 2 to 7.30pm tomorrow
