Galway Bay fm newsroom – A protest march is underway in the city against the cancellation of a number of busy city bus routes.
Services from Westside to Claddagh, Scoil Einde to Seacrest and Claddagh to Westside via Salthill were cancelled a few weeks ago.
Pupils attending Claddagh National School are worst affected by the cancellation according to City Councillor Mike Cubbard.
As a result, Claddagh School Band is leading a protest march up to the coach station at Eyre Square.
There is a large turnout for the march which began at the school in the past half hour and is travelling up Merchants Road to Eyre Square.
Protestors are carrying placards with the slogans ‘Make a fuss…Save Claddagh bus’ and ‘Add Claddagh bus to PSO’ and children are chanting ‘save our bus’.
Parents have also joined in, with several local councillors and TDs also part of the march.
Councillor Mike Cubbard told our reporter David Nevin that this is a much bigger problem than originally thought.
