Illegal Traveller encampment to move on from Doughiska

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A number of Traveller families who have set up an illegal encampment at Doughiska have agreed to move on.
The encampment settled in the area at the weekend, after three previous such incursions.
The matter was raised at last evening’s meeting in City Hall where councillors urged officials to take decisive action.
Councillors were also due to discuss the Traveller Accommodation Plan at the meeting – however this was deferred to a later date.
However, the group has since agreed to leave with all vehicles set to exit the area this morning.
Brigid Kelly of Galway Traveller Movement says the search for accommodation is particularly challenging for Travellers.
