Galway Bay fm newsroom – The first sod is being turned today on a new wastewater treatment plant for Oughterard.
The project led by Irish Water will involve an investment of 4.2 million euro.
This will increase the capacity of the current facility to allow for future growth in population as well as economic development.
It’s also expected to improve water quality in the Owenriff River and Lough Corrib.
These are both areas of ecological importance due to the freshwater pearl mussel.
Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs and Galway West Fine Gael TD Sean Kyne will officiate at the sod turning at the Connemara Lake Hotel.
