OPW Minister reassures South Galway residents on flood relief plans

Galway Bay fm newsroom – OPW Minister and Galway East TD Sean Canney is reassuring residents in South Galway that all efforts are being made to develop a flood relief plan for the region.
It follows claims from Deputy Anne Rabbitte that Minister Canney is taking a ‘hands off’ approach to the development of a plan for the Gort lowlands.
The Fianna Fail Deputy also argued that questions she raised in the Dáil were met with vague responses that offered no commitment to a badly needed strategy.
Independent Minister Canney says a steering committee is being established and funding has been secured for consultants to develop a strategy.
Minister Canney says flood relief schemes, including in South Galway, remain a top priority for the Government.
He says a process has to be followed to ensure a proper plan is developed – and it’s unfair to say nothing is being done.
